The relevant person in charge of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau said that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the area of sandy land has decreased by more than 64.9 million mu, and the ecological environment in sandy areas has been significantly improved. Through the implementation of a series of major projects, the green ecological barrier along the sandstorm line in the north of China has been gradually established. The Beijing Tianjin sandstorm source control project has been implemented for more than 20 years, and the afforestation area has been 9.029 million hectares. The construction of the three north protective forest system has been implemented for more than 40 years, and the afforestation area has been 30.14 million hectares. The three major sandy lands of Maowusu, Hunshandake and Horqin and the surrounding areas of Kubuqi Desert have been transformed from "barren land" to "oasis on the frontier".

The person in charge said that in the past ten years, 41 national comprehensive demonstration areas for desertification prevention and control, 128 desert (rocky desert) parks have been established, and the pilot work of desert ecological protection compensation has been carried out. According to the monitoring, the sandstorm weather in the past five years is obvious, 31% less than that during the 11th Five Year Plan period.

On the basis of strict protection and governance, China has made full use of the advantages of light and heat, species, land and other resources in the sand area to moderately develop industries such as forage, traditional Chinese medicine, economic fruits, desert tourism, wind power photovoltaic, and biomass energy, so as to promote people in the sand area to become rich in sand control and sand control in the process of becoming rich. According to statistics, the annual output of dry and fresh fruits in the sand area is about 48 million tons, accounting for about 1/4 of the total output of the country. The income of forest fruits in key areas accounts for more than 50% of the net income of farmers.

The person in charge said that over the years, China has actively fulfilled its obligations under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, carried out exchanges and cooperation with the "the Belt and Road Initiative", established a knowledge management center for desertification control, and contributed * experience and * programs to * desertification control.

He also said that, in the next step, China will comprehensively promote the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grass and sand, strengthen the construction of closed protection areas for desertified land and desert parks, and establish and improve the desert ecological protection compensation system. By 2025, the enclosed and protected area of desertification land will reach 30 million mu, the newly increased area of desertification land under control will reach 100 million mu, and the newly increased area of comprehensive control of rocky desertification will reach 19.5 million mu.
